Darren, Yu Xian and Derwin are back from a trip to the 14th TBS DigiCon6 Grand Finals in Tokyo, Japan!
Spycat competed against 49 other entries from 10 regions (Japan, China, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand) for top honours.
We didn’t go home with any prizes, but that’s okay! We’re extremely grateful and happy just to have been there, and we’d like to thank TBS (and Japan!) for being such wonderful hosts. We had a great time!
Check out some of our pictures below!
Day One! Our DigiCon6 experience began with a trip to the Fujiko F. Fujio Museum in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture (Fujiko F. Fujio is the creator of Doraemon!) Here we are clowning around with Doraemon’s Anywhere Door (Dokodemo Door).
After the museum, we were brought to the TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System) Headquarters back in Tokyo. We attended a seminar by Satoshi Tomioka, president of Kanaban Graphics and creator of Usavich. This was followed by a tour of the TBS Headquarters and a reception party in the evening.
…and here’s a close-up!
We sat in at two ‘Asian Creators Talks’ at Inter BEE 2012. The first session was by Thai director Adisorn Tresirikasem, while the second was by Yakuza 5 (Ryū ga Gotoku 5) producer Toshihiro Nagoshi (above). The top DigiCon6 winners from each region also gave short presentations of their work. © DigiCon6, 2012
A segment from Spycat appears on the Cross Media Theater screen at Inter BEE 2012! The second day ended with the Production & Creator’s Night, a short reception held at the same location.
It’s the final day and the three of us are at the Marunouchi Building in central Tokyo for the awards ceremony!
Spycat didn’t pick up any awards that night, but here are the DigiCon6 winners anyway! The Golden DigiCon6 Award went to display-tag from Japan. You can see the full list of winners here. © DigiCon6, 2012
We managed to do some sightseeing after DigiCon6! Tokyo was so much fun and we really enjoyed ourselves. Here we are in front of the recently-completed Tokyo Skytree! We’ll spare you from the rest of our cheesy vacation shots.
It’s always great to travel for Spycat!
